The journey to Vlieland
Vlieland is one of the Wadden Islands of the Netherlands, situated between Texel and Terschelling.
From Harlingen or Kornwerderzand, you can make the crossing to Vlieland or Terschelling. Departing from the marina in Dokkumer Nieuwe Zijlen, it is assumed that you will head out onto the Wadden Sea from Lauwersoog. From Ameland, you would then sail towards Vlieland across the Wadden Sea. Keep a close eye on the water levels during this journey. From the Vliestroom (VL), you have the option to choose between the sheltered route or a stretch through the sea passage between Terschelling and Vlieland. The sheltered route runs along the south of the sandbank called the Richel, through the Vlielanderbalg to the Vliestroom. This route should only be taken around high tide.
Tips for the journey: Keep VHF channel 2 (the Brandaris) on standby. The VHF channel for the harbor is 12.
Once the harbor of Vlieland is in sight, follow the buoys along the beach. NOTE: There can be a significant tidal current here. Once in the harbor, one of the harbor masters will assign you a berth.
The harbor has a toilet building, a small supermarket, a cafeteria, and a restaurant. Additionally, you can use the laundry facilities, and within 100 meters, there is also a gas station. If your boat is in the harbor, you can swim for free at the Flidunen sports center.
Staying overnight in the Wadden Harbor of Vlieland costs €0.90 per m2. Additionally, tourist tax is €2.05 per person per night.
