Sil has been self-employed in inland navigation since 2018, navigating inland vessels as a skipper or mate. He typically works two weeks out of every month. Over the past year, he has frequently sailed between Amsterdam and Groningen, using either diesel or gasoline. Starting from early 2021, he has been operating a new vessel that sails extensively between Amsterdam and Antwerp. During the two weeks per month that he is at home, Sil is always active. He enjoys socializing and spending time with friends and family, as well as pursuing entrepreneurial activities.

In June 2019, Sil felt the need for a vacation. He wanted to go on a boating holiday but struggled to find a nice, affordable boat available for rent—everything seemed fully booked. This led him to the idea of purchasing his own boat to rent out. After researching and committing to the idea, by the end of 2019, Lobke and de Strandjutter, two distinctive boats full of character, were moored at the Lunegat marina in Dokkumer Nieuwe Zijlen. In early 2021, the fleet expanded with Ús Jacht. Later that year, Samar, Mare, Moanne, and Jort joined the fleet. By the end of 2021, the fleet grew once more with Stoarm, Sile, and Sinne
