With the sailing route round trip Friesland, you will sail through several cities and beautiful nature areas in Friesland in 6 days. You will cover about 125 kilometers.
Day 1 – Dokkum – 12 km – 2.5 hours sailing
Our Eleven Cities route starts from Marina Lunegat. From there, you will go via the Dokkumer Diep through the lock onto the Dokkumer Ee towards Dokkum. Dokkum is the first Eleven Cities town you will encounter. You can moor here along the ramparts or right in the center. Take a city walk along the ramparts or see the statue of Saint Boniface.

Day 2 – Leeuwarden – 23 km – 3 hours
From Dokkum, follow the Dokkumer Ee to Leeuwarden. You will pass through the villages of Burdaard, Bartlehiem, Wyns, and Lekkum. In Leeuwarden, keep to the right. You will then pass the Prinsentuin, the park of Leeuwarden. Here you can moor and easily enter the city. Leeuwarden is the capital of Friesland and the end of the Frisian ice skating Elfstedentocht. You can climb the Oldehove, visit the Fries Museum, or shop in the center of Leeuwarden.

Day 3 – Sneek – 29 km – 4 hours
From Leeuwarden, you will sail via the Van Harinxmakanaal to the Wergeasterfeart, which flows into the Eagumerdjip. You will follow this waterway until you reach Grou. From here, you will follow the Prinses Magrietkanaal to the Sneekermeer. You can choose to spend the night in Sneek or Terherne.
Sneek is known for its water sports opportunities and the Sneekweek.
Terherne is a picturesque village known from the Kameleon films.

Day 4 – Frisian Lakes – 3 hours
From Sneek, you can sail to various villages and lakes. We personally find Heeg, Woudsend, and Langweer very nice to sail by. Use this day to relax and enjoy the nature and charming villages in the area around Sneek.
Day 5 – Earnewoude – 26 km – 3 hours
From Sneek, sail towards the Sneekermeer.
*Note! Large ships also sail here, these ships always have the right of way.*
You will head towards Terherne on the lake. This village is known from the Kameleon films and there is plenty to do here.
From Terhorne, you will go inland to Akkrum, another water sports village. From Akkrum, you will go via the Zijlroede and the Burstummerrak to the Wide Ie. From there, you will enter National Park de Alde Feanen. Here you can find a nice spot to spend the night or continue sailing to the village of Earnewoude.
Day 6 – Home port – 35 km – 3.5 hours
From Earnewoude, you can sail via the Prinses Margrietkanaal to Burgum. From the Burgumer Mar, you can enter the Kuikhornstervaart. This waterway eventually leads to Dokkumer Nieuwe Zijlen.
Tips
Bring some extra small change for bridges, water, and showers. Usually, you need to drop 50 cents in the machines.
In most marinas, there are toilets and showers. If you want to use these, we recommend mooring in a marina overnight.
In this route, we have not accounted for mooring fees in the harbors. This will be the responsibility of the renter.
