From Dokkum to Oostmahorn (or vice versa), you will experience beautiful nature, artworks, and of course, the peace and space of the vast landscape. You can take a round trip via the Dokkumer Grootdiep. The old towpath takes you back to earlier times, as do the monumental locks at Dokkumer Nieuwe Zijlen. The Lauwersmeer lets you feel the elements of nature. A very diverse sailing trip that takes about a day. Be sure to consider the operating times of the various bridges and locks. Practical information

Practical information for your boat The Súd le is suitable for canoes, sloops, and (motor) boats with a maximum draft of 1.10 meters, 4 meters in width, 1.50 m in height, and a length of 15 meters. In 2023, the route is accessible for boats with a maximum height of 2.40 meters.

Docks Three Marrekrite docks have been established along the route. Water sports enthusiasts may stay here for a maximum of three days for free, provided they adhere to the rules of the Marrekrite. The docking options can be found at Jouswier (Reidswâl), the Anjumer Kolken, and Ezumazijl. All locations have sixty meters of docking space available.

Locks

The route is approximately twelve kilometers long. Two locks mark the route. The Oosterverlaat lock at the Schapedijkje in Dokkum is monumental and is operated by the lock keeper for you. Call ten to fifteen minutes in advance with Mr. Jagersma (from Camping Harddraverspark) at 06-50606390. The lock at vacation park Landal Esonstad can be operated by yourself. A clear instruction helps you to easily pass through the lock. If it doesn’t work? Then the park staff will be happy to assist you!
