This curly-haired guy will often be seen at the harbor
Meet Sil: inland shipping captain, social person, and the creator of Sailing with Sil.
This is Sil
A day without sailing is a day not lived
You may have seen him on the flags: a curly-haired guy with a captain’s cap. This is Sil. He is an inland shipping captain and the creator of Sailing with Sil. Sil is always on the move — you can encounter him on large tankers of 135 meters or fast boats on the Wadden Sea. It doesn’t matter to him, as long as it involves sailing.
Sil has changed course and will be present in the harbor this sailing season. A lot has changed: due to the success and rapid growth, choices had to be made.
From vacation plan to fleet
The origin of Sailing with Sil
Sil has been self-employed in inland shipping since 2018. He sails on inland vessels as a captain or helmsman, usually two weeks a month. Over the past year, he has sailed a lot between Amsterdam and Groningen with diesel or gasoline; starting from early 2021, he will sail on a new ship between Amsterdam and Antwerp.
In the two weeks he is home each month, he never sits still. He is a social person and enjoys spending time with friends and family, and he also loves to undertake activities. In June 2019, he was ready for a vacation — he wanted to go on a sailing holiday, but he couldn’t find a classic boat to rent anywhere. Thus, the idea for Sailing with Sil was born.
