With the sailing route “Rondje Friesland,” you’ll cruise through several cities and beautiful natural areas in Friesland over 6 days. You’ll cover approximately 125 kilometers.
Day 1 – Dokkum – 12 km – 2.5 hours of sailing
Our Eleven Cities Route starts from Jachthaven Lunegat. From there, you’ll travel via the Dokkumer Diep and through the lock onto the Dokkumer Ee towards Dokkum. Dokkum is the first of the Eleven Cities you’ll encounter. You can moor along the ramparts or right in the city center. Take a city walk along the ramparts or visit the statue of Saint Boniface.

Day 2 – Leeuwarden – 23km – 3 hours
From Dokkum, follow the Dokkumer Ee to Leeuwarden. You’ll pass through the villages of Burdaard, Bartlehiem, Wyns, and Lekkum. In Leeuwarden, keep to the right. You’ll pass by the Prinsentuin, Leeuwarden’s park. Here, you can moor and easily explore the city. Leeuwarden is the capital of Friesland and marks the end of the Frisian ice skating Eleven Cities Tour. You can climb the Oldehove tower, visit the Fries Museum, or shop in Leeuwarden’s city center.

Day 3 – Sneek – 29km – 4 hours
From Leeuwarden, you’ll sail via the Van Harinxma Canal to the Wergeasterfeart, which merges into the Eagumerdjip. Follow this waterway until you reach Grou. From here, continue along the Princess Margriet Canal to the Sneekermeer. You can choose to stay overnight in Sneek or Terherne.
Sneek is famous for its water sports opportunities and the Sneek Week festival.
Terherne is a picturesque village known for the Kameleon films.

Day 4 – Frisian Lakes – 3 hours
From Sneek, you can sail to various villages and lakes. We particularly recommend visiting Heeg, Woudsend, and Langweer. Use this day to relax and enjoy the nature and charming villages around Sneek.
Day 5 – Earnewoude – 26km – 3 hours
From Sneek, sail towards the Sneekermeer.
Attention! Large ships also navigate here, and they always have priority.
Cross the lake towards Terherne. This village is famous from the Kameleon films and offers plenty to explore.
From Terherne, take the inland route to Akkrum, another watersports village. From Akkrum, navigate via the Zijlroede and the Burstummerrak to the Wide Ie. From there, you’ll enter the Alde Feanen National Park. Here, you can find a nice spot to stay overnight or continue on to the village of Earnewoude.
Day 6 – Homeport – 35km – 3.5 hours
From Earnewoude, you can sail via the Princess Margriet Canal to Burgum. From Burgumer Mar, you can enter the Kuikhornstervaart. This waterway eventually leads to Dokkumer Nieuwe Zijlen.
Tips:
Bring some extra small change for bridges, water, and showers. Typically, you’ll need 50-cent coins for the machines.
Most marinas have toilets and showers. If you plan to use these facilities, it’s advisable to stay overnight in a marina.
This route does not include mooring fees in the marinas, which are the responsibility of the renter.
