Please note, you do need sailing experience to rent the LG03.
The Story of the LG03
This sturdy Schokker “LG03” was designed and built in 1980 by a passionate builder and designer, Roelof Akkerman, at the Akkerman shipyard in Nieuw Beerta as the Kaat Mossel. The 11-ton Akkerman Schokkers, with characteristics of the Botter, were built in Nieuw Beerta starting in 1974. Later, this shipyard relocated to Woudbloem in Groningen.
The LG03 is 10.40 m long, 3.65 m wide, and has a draft of only 0.85 m. With its flat bottom, 40 mm thick, it is very stable and well-suited for shallow waters such as the Wadden Sea and the Frisian lakes.
The low cabin structure and wide side decks provide ample space to access the foredeck and allow for easy and safe sail hoisting.
The loefbijter installed in 2023 ensures a stable course and allows for sailing close to the wind.
The Schokker is well-maintained and underwent a complete refit in 2021.
Interior
In the surprisingly spacious cabin, you will find a 2-burner gas stove, a fully equipped kitchen, a large refrigerator, plenty of storage space, and a spacious seating area around a foldable table. This cozy and roomy cabin has a standing height of 195 cm.
The Schokker has a cabin with a large double bed and an extra bunk for small children. In the cabin, the two long benches can serve as single beds. This way, four adults can sleep on board, or two adults with three children. The double bed is 210 cm long and 140 cm wide. The beds in the cabin are 210 cm long.
There is a radio-CD player, and you can charge your mobile devices with the 12-Volt connection, USB port, and 230-Volt socket.
The technology in the LG03
When it comes to technology, the LG03 lacks nothing. The flat-bottomed boat is equipped with a new Craftsman marine diesel engine with a right-turning propeller, wind meter, depth meter, anchor winch with 30 meters of chain, 2 self-tailing winches, 2 leeboard winches, a handheld VHF radio, battery charger, and 2 batteries with an automatic charging system.
For grounding on the mudflats, there is an all-round masthead light. Naturally, there is a shore power connection with an extension cord on board.
The equipment of the LG03
The complete sailing equipment was renewed in 2020 and consists of a mainsail, jib, and a furling staysail.
You hoist the mainsail with a double halyard, and that goes surprisingly easily.
The mainsail and jib can be reefed if necessary using the reefing line and reefing ropes.
You will find the most recent nautical charts on board, as well as a spare anchor, binoculars with compass, a full set of flares, spare parts, and tools.
