Sailing with the Blauburd

Designer/builder Siger Bos wanted to create a fast-sailing ship that is comfortable and functional. To achieve this, he explored the limits indicated by the registry (SSRP), with great results! After 4 years of preparation, drawing, and thinking, Blauburd was built in 2006 at shipyard Kroes in Leeuwarden.

Due to its hull shape, Blauburd is a stable, fast-sailing, and comfortable ship that takes on little water over the bow. The hull is made of 20 mm steel, ideal for grounding on the mudflats. Additionally, the self-tailing winches make raising and lowering the sails (a total of 100 m² sail area) easy, and the cockpit is self-draining. In short, it’s a delightful ship to sail, and even when you’re not sailing, it’s a great ship to spend time on.

The strikingly light interior immediately creates a pleasant atmosphere. The kitchen is equipped with 3 gas burners, a sink with faucet, and a spacious refrigerator. With the gas oven, you can even enjoy warm rolls for breakfast when you’re grounded on the mudflats.

There is more than enough storage space, and the lighting has been well thought out. A radio is available, along with a 12V and 220V socket for chargers and devices like the coffee maker. You can comfortably curl up in the corner sofa, eat at the spacious table, and when it’s cooler, turn on the diesel heater: it’s all possible! The toilet is spacious and equipped with a sink.

There are sleeping places for 6 adults or 4 adults and 4 children. In short, a wonderfully sturdy, fast, well-maintained, and reliable ship to take out with two people, one or two families, or with (a maximum of) 6 adults.

When renting the Blauburd, you pay a deposit of €1000. This deposit must be paid before departure. You will receive an email about this five days before arrival.

• Wind force 4 to 5: put in the first reef.
• Wind force 5 to 6: put in the second reef.
• Wind force 6 or higher: seek a harbor or safe anchorage as soon as possible.
