What to do in Woudsend?

There is plenty to do in and around Woudsend, with beautiful historic streets and alleys to wander through. A tip is the Elfstegentocht, a walk of about 2 kilometers through the village, where you can learn about the rich history of the village. Additionally, you can visit the oldest Roman Catholic church in Friesland, the Sint Michaël church. In Woudsend, you will also find the 17th-century Korenmolen ’t Lam, where various types of grain are still ground. The flour is then sent to the bakers in the region. The mill is open for viewing, and in the shop, you can buy special baking mixes to try at home.

Restaurants and cafés in Woudsend

In the center of Woudsend, you can enjoy a cozy atmosphere in one of the lovely restaurants and cafés. For example, stop by the church-restaurant ’t Ponkje. A charming little restaurant in a unique location, namely an old church. The ponkje is the Frisian term for the church bag, and the interior of the restaurant has been preserved as much as possible, with old benches, the pulpit, and the soundboard. A great spot for a snack or a drink. Or head to Omke Jan for a nice cup of coffee or dinner, a bistro-style meeting place by the water in Woudsend. They prepare food using as many local products as possible and follow the seasons, so you can taste something new every time.

In the summer months of July and August, a farmers’ market is held every Thursday in Woudsend. Here you can buy fresh local products from the countryside and other fun items. From Woudsend to Hindeloopen or Sneek

From Woudsend, you can easily sail to the Frisian Venice: Hindeloopen or reach the Water Gate of Sneek in no time. Sail via the beaches of Langweer to the chameleon village of Terhorne and end in Sneek. A very suitable family route, full of children’s activities that make the journey enjoyable for the whole family. 

Where can I dock the boat in Woudsend?

If you sail to Woudsend, you can dock your boat in various places in the village. If you’re only staying for a few hours, you can moor along the quay in the center. If that is full, you can dock your boat at the nearby marina De Rakken. A large marina with space for three hundred boats, located next to the center of Woudsend. The harbor is equipped with all amenities, such as water and electricity. If you stay overnight, you will pay a nightly mooring fee. A bit further from the center, you will find several smaller marinas along the Wellensloot on the east side of Woudsend, where you can also dock. Just before the Wellebrug, you can refuel. The Wellebrug itself is open every day from April to September between 09:00 and 20:00.
