Dokkum from the water<\/h2>\n

As you sail to Dokkum via the Elfstedenwater, either through the Dokkumer Ee or the Dokkumer Grootdiep, the first thing you’ll see are the ramparts. In the late 16th century, the fortress was built to protect the city, and its contours are still fully intact today, known as the ramparts. On the ramparts, you’ll find two windmills: the grain mill ‘De Hoop’ and the grain and peel mill ‘Zeldenrust’. If you’re staying in Dokkum for a while, taking a walk along the ramparts is highly recommended.<\/p>\n

With a motorboat or a sloop, you can navigate through the low bridges into the city center. In the heart of Dokkum, you’ll find the turning point of the Eleven Cities Tour. After receiving their stamp here, skaters turn around to head back towards Leeuwarden. Along both sides of the quay, there are benches shaped like traditional Frisian wooden skates called “de doorlopers”. The tip of these skates points in the direction of the skaters.<\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Mooring in Dokkum<\/h2>\n

In Dokkum, you can moor your boat in several different spots. There are plenty of places to dock along the outer side of the ramparts. Here, you can also connect to shore power. Additionally, you can dock your boat along the quays in the city center, providing easy access to explore the town.<\/p>\n

Facilities<\/h3>\n

Near the Woudpoortbrug, Altenabrug, and Lutjebleek, you’ll find modern toilet facilities. Garbage is collected in the evening and morning. You can place it next to your boat or in the gangway.<\/p>\n
